gif
The Graphics Interchange Format (gif) is a lossless bitmap compression format which allows a single image to reference to palette of (up to) 256 colors. This format was first introduced by Compuserve in 1987 and is now widely used on the Web. GIF is used to display things like buttons but is not recommended for use with photographs due to the 256 color limitation

Hypertext
It is a text displayed on a computer with references to other text that the reader can immediately accessed.

Internet
It is a global system of interconnected computer networks. In other words, it is a network of networks.

Internet Protocol (IP)
The Internet Protocol defines the addressing methods and structures for data transmission between computers over the internet. the older version IPv4 still dominates although the newer version IPv6 is now deployed actively worldwide.

IP address
It defines the location of a computer over the internet. Under IPv4, an IP address consists of four sets of numbers separated by periods. Each set ranges from 0 to 255. with the continual expansion of the internet, the address space is running out and thus the emergence of the new IPv6 which deploys six sets of numbers, instead of four, to define an address.

jpg, jpeg
Jpeg is the standard created by the Joint Photographic Experts Group. JPEG is a lossy bitmap compression algorithm meant primarily for digital photos. Lossy means that when JPEG images are saved they are compressed to less than their original size, but this comes with a loss in quality. If a JPEG is edited and then saved again as a JPEG, the image will have deteriorated in quality because it has been compressed twice.

svg
SVG, or Scalable Vector Graphics, is a XML mark-up language for vector graphics. SVG defines things in geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and polygons. This means, when you increase the size of an SVG image, it always stays sharp, and never becomes pixilated. This can be quite useful for logos and other simple graphics, allowing for many different sizes of the same image to be used with no loss in quality. Also, SVG images typically have very small file sizes.
